Students on the Sixth Form Music Performance pathway had the chance to take a backstage tour of our local multipurpose live venue. The tour was led by the Technical Operations Manager for BHLive and included a talk on the planning and delivery of a large music event.
The tour covered the full range of events that can be conducted in a large multipurpose venue from large music events, exhibitions, charity dinners, political party conferences, awards ceremonies and many more. It also helped us to understand the process of planning and managing large events including security considerations, health & safety, legal requirements, licencing, crowd management, budgeting, merchandise and ticketing, catering, transport, equipment hire and rigging, staffing and job roles, and the multiplicity of organisations and links in the music industry.
The final exam in the new-look BTEC Level 3 National
Extended Certificate qualification requires students to plan, budget and
present a bid in the role event organiser based on a scenario brief. All the
information gleaned from the trip was directly relevant to the exam which
starts next week for our Music Performance students. Good luck to our year 13s
next week.
